 If you have a bad tooth you need to see the dentist before it gets worse. When you have a toothache, you will notice that something is not right in your mouth. Your jaw will hurt, pound and throb, and it will be very painful. It will make it hard to sleep, eat, think and concentrate on what you are doing at work or at home. You will have aching pain all through that one side of your mouth. Just imagine if it was on both sides or on the top and the bottom. That would be very painful to go through. You can have a hole in your mouth or a crack in your tooth that is exposing the nerve to air. It can make you go down on your knees.

My brother had a problem like this not once but twice in three years because he got holes in his teeth. He had pain for days and he did not have any insurance. We had to save up the money, and it took a week or more to get it. He was in so much pain that he went through a lot of Tylenol just in that week. He could not sleep well or hardly slept at all. He could barely eat anything, and he was always holding his jaw because it hurt that badly. We could see the holes in his tooth, and it was big. We could see the nerve in his tooth, too. That is how bad it was.

When I got him to the doctor at about 6:00 that night, they took an x-ray of it and showed us how bad it had gotten. Luckily he had no infection in it or they couldn't have pulled it out. This is called tooth extraction and they numbed him up. It was a little painful at first because of the shot they had to give him. After it was all done, it took a few days to heal and he felt so much better. He had no pain in his mouth.

When you have a toothache, don't wait to see a dentist later because the longer you wait, the more pain you will have. When you wait, the pain will not go away, and you can have a bad smell in your mouth because of the nerves decaying and the tooth rotting away. You will have a big pimple-like mass in your mouth because it is infected, and they can't pull it until the infection is gone.
